The Wheel of Time, Amazon Prime’s upcoming fantasy series based on the best selling books by Robert Jordan and completed by Brandon Sanderson following his death, has confirmed another cast member today (Wed 15th July) in the form of loyalist Inn Keeper, Basel Gill.
Darren Clarke has landed the small, but reoccurring role of Basel Gill, a friend of the Gleeman Thom Merrilin (Alexandre Willaume) who proves himself an alley to the protagonists of the series.
Basel Gill is the Inn Keeper of The Queen’s Blessing, a famed establishment in Caemlyn where Rand al’Thor and Mat Cauthon await the arrival of Moiraine, Perrin, and the girls after being separated at the ruined city of Shadar Logoth after fleeing their home in the Two Rivers. It is also where the group first meets the Ogier known as Loial (Hammed Animashaun).
The announcement came via the official Twitter account for Amazon Prime’s Wheel of Time on what is fondly known among the fandom as part of “WoT Wednesday”.
Many fans had speculated, in the absence of a cast announcement for any of the Royal Family of Andor, most notably Elayne Trakand, a major character and love interest of character Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), that this season may skip introducing the city of Caemlyn all together in favour of focusing on lands such as Ghealdan for the extended backstory of Logain Ablar (Alvaro Morte).
The WoT fandom can take comfort in the knowledge that with the casting of Basel Gill it all but guarantees us a glimpse into what is considered the second greatest city in Randland.
