Folks, we have our very first look at the Wheel of Time TV series!

This is not a drill, and is 100% OFFICIAL!

Our first look comes from an article in US publication, Entertainment Weekly’s September 2021 issue.

THE COVER

On the cover across the top for all to see “FIRST LOOK – IS WHEEL OF TIME THE NEXT GAME OF THRONES?” showing us that Amazon’s marketing campaign is now fully underway, and that they will steer into the Game of Thrones comparisons.

THE IMAGES

We got a total of four full images in this article, and the first one is a biggie! It shows the Emond’s Field Five with our favourite Aes Sedai, Moiraine Damodred and her heroic Warder Lan Mandragoran, in full costume!

Here we get a close look at the Two Rives garbs, which look dramatically different from Moiraine’s Aes Sedai dress and Lan’s Borderlander one.

We get small hints at who the characters are, with Rand wearing a coat of sheepskin, Perrin in Blacksmith clothes with shaggy grey fur at the cuffs, and Mat looking like a bit of a vagabond….You know before he gets a taste of lace at his cuffs.

SHADAR LOGOTH

In the second image we see Lan carrying a seemingly exhausted/unconscious Moiraine in the ghostly city of Shadar Logoth.

From Entertainment Weekly September 2021 issue

In the article, showrunner Rafe Judkins talks about building the ruined city from scratch for 15 minutes of screen time. Now does this mean that we won’t get enough time for the story of Mordeth? I guess we need to wait till November for the answers.

ALVARO MORTE AS LOGAIN

The third image (and this one is the author’s favourite) is arguably the most intriguing one.

From Entertainment Weekly September 2021 issue

Here we see Alvaro Morte as Logain Ablar, and it is the first visual of the famous actor’s involvement with WoT TV series.

In the image we see him locked inside a cage, throwing a wild look wearing a very regal garment. The article states that Alanna Mosvani (Priyanka Bose) and Kerene Nagashi (Claire Perkins), both of the Green Ajah, accompany Logain in the carriage, sitting close to him outside the cage.

From the setting, it is clear that they are holding the Shield on the False Dragon, and two more Red Ajah Aes Sedai follow the trio on horseback. Notably absent is the glow of saidar, or any visible form of the weaves required to Shield the man. Will these perhaps be added for the show, or does this indicate that these weaves may only be visible from certain POVs. We’re certainly hungry to find out.

RAND AND EGWENE

The last image shows Rand al’Thor and Egwene al’Vere catching some alone time on a rocky outcrop. And who can blame them? The trek through the unknown landscape after their escape from Two Rivers must have been taxing. Could this be the scene of that epic argument between the two characters while on the road? Perhaps what we’re viewing here is ultimately their break-up scene? We will be eagerly waiting to find out.
