After a two year break, The Witcher will return to Netflix on December 17th 2021 for its second season. The show will pick up from the end of season one, and will see Geralt and Ciri travel to Kaer Morhen, which is the Witcher’s keep.

Netflix released its full 8 episode series on 20th December 2019, based on the books ‘The Last Wish’ and ‘Sword of Destiny’. These are a collection of short stories that precede the main Witcher saga.

Season one was based around the three main characters Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Cirilla or better known as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg.

The Witcher – Season 2 Plot:

Showrunner, executive producer and screenwriter Lauren Hissrich has confirmed that as the Witcher’s main cast, Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, are together in space and time, the plot and timeline for Season 2 will be much more straightforward than that of season one. Although there will be flashbacks from Geralt’s time in Kaer Morhen, these will remain separate from the main story.

Geralt and Ciri will be travelling to the Witcher stronghold Kaer Morhen where Ciri’s training will begin. Geralt has the unenvious task of teaching and protecting her from her enemies and her own latent powers.

Yennefer of Vengerberg; who was presumed dead after the Battle of Sodden, will be searching for Geralt and Ciri and will travel to Geralts childhood home of Kaer Morhen.

It is also rumoured that the Netflix series will give us a first look at the Wild Hunt. These images captured by fansite Redanian Intelligence on the beaches of Devon show the horses and riders wearing black bony armour and do have an eerie look to match the Wild Hunt.

Book readers will be keen to point out that we do not see the Wild Hunt until the fourth book, Time of Contempt, when they are in pursuing Ciri. Unless there is major shift from the books to the tv adaptation, it is fair to assume they will only have a cameo in Season 2.

Living in a secluded manor in Redania, in the woods near Murivel, Nivellin is a cursed man. Fans of the series may also know him as ‘Fanger’ or ‘Degen’.

Nivellin was the leader of a gang of highway men and cutthroats. The man was cursed after raping a young priestess at a temple in Gelibol. Before killing herself she spat in Nivellin face and cursed him, telling him that he was a ‘monster in a man’s skin’ and that he would become a ‘monster in a monster’s skin’.

Alongside Nivellin, we can expect to meet several other new characters in season 2.

These include, loud mouthed Witcher Lambert, played by Paul Bullion. Yasen Atour will take up the role of weapons trainer Coen. Thue Ersted Rasmussen will play the Witcher Eskel.

We will also meet Geralt’s mentor, Vesemir, played by Kim Bodina. Vesemir is the oldest and most knowledgeable Witcher alive and the recent star of Witcher spin-off Nightmare of the Wolf
